Why Rage?
Tryout Process
Step 1: Determine Your Team
Review the USAV Age Definition Chart to the right to determine which age team you are eligible to tryout for. While athletes may be eligible for multiple teams, we strongly encourage players to try out with their grade-level age whenever possible. Once you've identified the appropriate team(s), you're ready for the next step.
Step 2: Register for Tryouts
Complete your tryout registration using the registration link provided. Please take the time to answer all registration questions thoroughly and accurately. This information helps our staff prepare for tryouts and communicate important updates throughout the process.
Step 3: Prepare for Tryouts
The best way to prepare for a successful tryout is to train and get your reps before tryout day arrives. We encourage athletes to attend our summer camps and clinics, particularly our Pre-Tryout Clinics and High Performance Camp. Take a look at which teams will be National Level teams (very high commitment level), power (medium to high commitment), and premier (medium commitment).
These events provide valuable opportunities for:
- Skill development and confidence building
- Increased exposure to Rage coaches
- Coach and athlete interaction prior to tryouts
- Learning more about coaching styles and team expectations
- Asking questions and determining if a coach is the right fit for your goals
Our coaching staff actively evaluates athletes throughout the summer and often identifies players they want to watch closely during the tryout process. Taking advantage of these training opportunities can help athletes feel more prepared and comfortable when tryout day arrives.
Step 4: Compete and Have Fun
Arrive ready to work hard, compete, and showcase your abilities. Tryouts are designed to evaluate athletic skills, volleyball IQ, coachability, effort, and teamwork. Most importantly, be yourself, enjoy the experience, and let your passion for the game shine.
We look forward to meeting the next generation of Rage athletes and helping them take the next step in their volleyball journey.

Grade-Level Placement Policy
Philosophy
At Rage Volleyball, our placement philosophy prioritizes long-term athlete development over short-term competitive advantage. We believe athletes develop most successfully when they train and compete alongside peers with similar physical, emotional, social, and educational maturity.
While USA Volleyball establishes age eligibility requirements, we believe that grade level more consistently reflects an athlete's stage of development, school experience, and long-term volleyball pathway. For this reason, Rage Volleyball uses an athlete's current grade in school as the primary guideline for team placement while remaining fully compliant with all USA Volleyball eligibility rules.
Our goal is to place every athlete in the environment where they have the greatest opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy the game while preparing for future success.
Placement Guidelines
- Athletes are expected to participate with the team that corresponds to their current grade in school, provided they meet USA Volleyball age eligibility requirements.
- Athletes who are young for their grade level (for example, those with summer birthdays) will generally remain with their classmates rather than competing in a younger age division solely because they remain age eligible.
- Playing up an age division is considered an exception rather than the standard. Athletes may be considered for placement on an older team when club leadership determines that it is in the athlete's best long-term developmental interest and the athlete demonstrates the technical skill, physical ability, emotional maturity, and competitive readiness necessary to succeed at that level.
- Athletes will not be placed on a younger-grade team solely because they remain age eligible under USA Volleyball rules. Exceptions are rare and may be approved only by the Club Head Coach and/or CEO when extraordinary developmental circumstances exist.
- Requests to play outside of an athlete's grade level will be considered only when initiated or approved by club leadership. A request for an exception does not guarantee an evaluation outside the standard placement process.
Evaluation Criteria
When considering any exception to the standard placement guidelines, the Club Head Coach and/or CEO may evaluate factors including, but not limited to:
- Technical volleyball skills
- Athletic ability and physical readiness
- Competitive experience
- Emotional maturity
- Safety of the athlete and other participants
- Long-term player development
- Overall team balance and the athlete's projected role within the team
No single factor determines placement. Decisions are based on a comprehensive evaluation of each athlete and what is believed to provide the greatest opportunity for long-term success.
Final Authority
Roster decisions are made at the sole discretion of the Club Head Coach and/or CEO after considering all relevant evaluation factors. Placement decisions are intended to support both the individual athlete's development and the overall success of the club's teams.
All placement decisions are final.
Placement on a higher or lower team during one season does not guarantee placement at the same level in future seasons. Each athlete is evaluated independently each year based on current ability, development, and team needs.
Compliance with USA Volleyball
All athletes must meet current USA Volleyball eligibility requirements.
If a conflict exists between this policy and USA Volleyball regulations, USA Volleyball rules shall govern. Rage Volleyball reserves the right to modify this policy as USA Volleyball updates its age definitions, eligibility requirements, or other governing regulations.
