Club Tryouts – FAQs

Travel Club Volleyball – Frequently Asked Questions

What is Travel Club Volleyball?

Travel club volleyball is a competitive program where athletes train at a higher level and compete in tournaments against teams from across the state and country. Unlike recreational or school-based volleyball, travel club emphasizes skill development, consistent training, and exposure to top-level competition. Here, we train new and experienced players to play their best!

What makes Rage Volleyball stand out among other clubs in California’s Central Valley is our proven record of excellence. Rage has produced national championship teams, consistently develops athletes who go on to play at the collegiate level, and is led by one of the most experienced and respected coaching staffs in the region. Our modern training facility, player-centered approach, and long-standing culture of success set us apart—giving athletes not just the opportunity to compete, but to thrive in an environment built for growth, achievement, and community.

How is it different from school volleyball?

While school volleyball provides school pride and seasonal play, Rage’s travel program offers:

  • Higher-level competition – athletes face the best players and teams from across California and beyond.

  • Professional coaching – Rage coaches bring NCAA,  high school, and club championship-level experience.

  • Year-round development – structured practices, specialized clinics, and advanced training opportunities.

  • College exposure – Rage athletes play in national tournaments where recruiters look for the next generation of talent.

This combination of elite coaching, competition, and exposure makes Rage the clear choice for families serious about long-term volleyball growth. We teach athletes to trust the process and provide resources for next level success!

What is the time commitment?

  • Practices: Rage teams train 2–3 times per week (depending on the team they make) in our modern, player-centered facility. Power teams practice twice per week and national teams practice three times per week.

  • Tournaments: Competitions are held on weekends, with a mix of local and travel tournaments (including national events for qualifying teams). Schedules are provided after the teams have been formed.

  • Season length: The season typically runs 6–8 months, with postseason opportunities for teams advancing to major championships.

Rage’s structured schedule ensures athletes maximize their training while balancing academics and family life.

What are the costs involved?

Costs vary by age group and level but typically cover:

  • Expert coaching staff and facility use

  • Tournament entry fees (local, regional, and national)

  • Uniforms and gear

  • Strength and conditioning programs

Families are responsible for their own travel and lodging, but Rage prides itself on transparency with fees and offering more value per dollar through our proven training system, championship success, and college preparation. Club fees will be provided the week of tryouts. Please keep an eye on our webpage for updates.

Do athletes need prior experience?

No! Rage builds programs for athletes at every stage of development:

  • 12U–14U: Developmental and intermediate teams for younger athletes learning the game. National teams at these ages will have a greater travel schedule for higher competition.

  • 15U–18U: Competitive power and national teams that focus more on collegiate prep, recruiting, and playing on a national stage.

Our coaching staff is uniquely skilled at working with both new players and elite-level athletes, ensuring every athlete finds the right fit.

How do tryouts work?

Athletes attend Rage’s annual tryouts, where our coaches evaluate skills, athleticism, and potential. Teams are formed based on:

  • Age division (per USA Volleyball’s age definition chart) – Please take a look at this chart to ensure your athlete is trying out for the correct team. We recommend playing your athlete’s grade age.

  • Skill level and positional needs

  • Commitment and attitude – Stay positive throughout tryouts.

Rage tryouts are not only evaluations but also opportunities to experience our training culture, energy, and coaching excellence firsthand.
